Update Fatal Accident in Salem

The victim was a 19 year old male resident of Salem,MA. Transit Police investigators have received information that alcohol maybe a contributing factor in this accident but this has NOT been definitively determined. The accident scene location occured on the west end of Ocean Avenue near Broadway Street in Salem,MA. on Track 1. The investigation is ongoing, Transit Police in coordination with the Essex County District Attorney's Office and Salem,MA. Police Department are conducting the investigation to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

On October 18th, 2012 at approximately 10 PM Transit Police officers assigned to Area 2 were dispatched to the area of Ocean Ave and Broadway Street in Salem,MA for a possible pedestrian struck by an MBTA commuter rail train. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: an eastbound Newburyport MBTA commuter rail train struck a white male approximately 18 to 20 years of age on Track 1. The victim was transported to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Transit Police detectives are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
