Fatality in Ashland. Trespasser struck.

Death Investigation 

On February 27, 2017 at approximately 10:20PM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA Commuter Rail stop in Ashland for a report of a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police units along with Ashland Fire and EMS responded. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: a male, approximate age of 17, while trespassing on track 2 in the vicinity of the Fountain Street Overpass was struck by an inbound Worcester Line train. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained. Transit Police detectives along with representatives from the Middlesex DA's Office are investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. No further information will be released at this time.

Point of Entry Policing results in Firearm arrest.

On February 22, 2017 at approximately 7pm members of the Transit Police Crime Suppression Team were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Mass. Ave station. While there they had their attention drawn to a male juvenile, 17, of Quincy who entered through the fare gates without paying his fare. Officers approached the male juvenile for the purposes of issuing a citation. Based on the juvenile's behavior and suspicious movements a further inquiry was conducted which revealed the juvenile was in possession of a .22 caliber semi automatic handgun with 7 rounds in the magazine and one round chambered.

The juvenile male was placed into custody for Illegal Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

Based on tips from our MBTA community Xavier Galatis, 24, of Medford was placed into custody at his residence by Transit Police Detectives. Galatis will face criminal charges of Intimidation of a Witness, Annoying & Accosting a Person of the Opposite Sex and Assault & Battery 2 counts.

Quincy man arrested for Indecent Assault at Braintree station

On February 18, 2017 at approximately 9:55pm Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Braintree station for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival officers were met by the victim, a 24 year old female, who informed them of the following; while waiting on the bus platform she bent over to retrieve an item she had dropped. Suddenly a male, later identified as Marc Dicarli, 40, of Quincy came behind her and indecently assaulted her. The victim tried her best to push the suspect away. The suspect ceased his behavior temporarily and walked away however he returned to the victim's location and physically assaulted her again. The victim attempted to defend herself and eventually police responded.

Dicarli, still on scene, was placed into custody for Indecent Assault & Battery and Assault & Battery  and was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

Confirmed Fatality, Brockton CR

Death Investigation

On February 18, 2016 at approximately 7:15am Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Brockton Commuter Rail station for a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police units along with Brockton Fire and EMS responded. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: a male, approximate age of 75, while walking over the Middleborough Line crossing within the station was struck by an outbound commuter rail train. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained. Preliminary investigation suggests the crossing warning system, to includes flashing lights and horn activation, were working properly and engaged at time of incident.

There were 37 passengers on board who were transferred to a Brockton Area Transit bus.

The facts and circumstances surrounding the incident is under active investigation by Transit Police detectives along with representatives from the Plymouth County DA's Office. Foul play is NOT suspected.

The subject depicted within is wanted for questioning only relative to Malicious Destruction of Property at Malden Center MBTA Station on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at approximately 9:14 AM. Investigation suggests the depicted male punched out a Orange Line train window as it departed the station.

Cambridge man exposes himself at Ashmont MBTA

On February 12, 2017 at approximately 4:30pm a Transit Police officer assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Ashmont Station for a report of a disorderly male. Upon arrival the officer was met by an MBTA employee who pointed out a male, later identified as John Gearty, 29, of Cambridge and informed the officer Gearty was acting in a loud belligerent manner for no legitimate reason and requested the officer's assistance in dealing with him. As the officer approached, Gearty, began to use loud foul language creating a disturbance. Gearty also made homophobic slurs directed towards the MBTA employee. The officer ejected Gearty from the station, as Gearty was being escorted out he stopped and dropped his pants and underwear fully exposing his genitals and began to gyrate his body. This was done in plain view of other MBTA patrons.

Gearty was placed into custody for Disorderly Conduct and Indecent Exposure and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

Trespasser struck, confirmed fatality. Norwood.

Death Investigation

On February 3, 2017 at approximately 8:20PM Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to Norwood Central Commuter Rail station for a report of a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Norwood Fire and EMS. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: at approximately 8:20pm a female, approximate age of 50, while trespassing on the right of way in the vicinity of the Guild Street Overpass was struck by an outbound Franklin Line train. The female has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained. Transit Police detectives and representatives of the Norfolk County DA's Office are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident. Foul play is NOT suspected. NO further updates tonight.

Dorchester woman Assaults T employee

Janet Bourke

On February 2, 2017 at approximately 9:30pm Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Broadway Station for a report of an MBTA employee who was assaulted. Upon arrival officers were met by the victim who relayed the following information: a female, later identified as Janet Bourke, 61, of Dorchester, attempted to fare evade and was confronted by the victim. As a result Bourke threw a cup of hot coffee into the victim's face.

The victim was treated on scene by Boston EMS and Bourke was placed into custody for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. During the booking process Bourke became belligerent and with a closed fist struck the booking officer in the face.

Bourke will face additional charges of Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.

Man wanted for Assaulting Police caught fare evading.

Xavier Galatis

On February 1, 2017 at approximately 7:30PM Transit Police officers were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Chinatown station. While there they had their attention drawn to a male, later identified as Xavier Galatis, 24, of Medford. Galatis entered through the fare gates without paying his fare. Officers approached Galatis for the purpose of issuing a citation and subsequently discovered there were warrants in existence for Galatis' arrest issued from Cambridge District Court for Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Threats to Commit a Crime.


Galatis was issued a citation, placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

In our ongoing commitment to prevent bike larcenies on the MBTA please furnish us with any information you may have on the whereabouts of the individual depicted within, Carmelo Maldonado, 50, address unknown. Maldonado is wanted by Transit Police Detectives, warrants are in existence, for three separate bike larcenies occurring at the MBTA's Stony Brook station.
