Quincy man arrested after fare evading.

On May 30, 2017 at approximately 10:10PM Transit Police officers were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Andrew Sq. station. While there they observed a male, later identified as Stephen McDermott, 28, of Quincy fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer. Officers approached McDermott for the purpose of issuing a citation and subsequently discovered there were several warrants in existence for McDermott's arrest issued out of Boston Municipal Court for Unlicensed Operation and Quincy District Court for B&E Building in the Nighttime for Felony, Larceny from a Building and Larceny Under 250.00.


McDermott was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

Registered Sex Offender arrested for Lewd Act on MBTA Trolley

On May 25, 2017 at approximately 9:30pm Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Coolidge Corner station in Brookline for a report of a male who was conducting himself in a Lewd manner. Upon arrival officers were met by a female victim who relayed the following: while riding on a Green Line trolley she observed a male, later identified as Robert Widberg, 53, of Canton, performing a lewd act. Victim in an attempt to avoid the situation moved away to another seat within the trolley.


Officers approached Widberg, and he was positively identified by the victim. Widberg was placed into custody for Open & Gross Lewdness and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. During this process it was discovered Widberg is a Registered Level 2 Sex Offender.

Randolph man arrested for Indecent Assault & Battery

On May 16, 2017 at approximately 5PM Transit Police officers assigned to the South District were approached by a female victim who reported the following: while walking to her vehicle at the MBTA Braintree parking garage she was approached by a male who began to ask her inappropriate questions. Shortly thereafter the male indecently assaulted the victim and fled in an unknown direction.


Subsequent to an investigation by Transit Police Detectives on May 23, 2017 Cody Chery, 21, of Randolph was placed into custody at the MBTA Downtown Crossing station for Indecent Assault & Battery. Detectives noted at the time of arrest Chery was wearing a court ordered GPS bracelet relative to a prior conviction for Indecent Assault & Battery.


Chery was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

MBTA bus operator assaulted in Lynn.

On May 20, 2017 at approximately 11:47pm Transit Police officers responded to the area of 795 Fenton Street in Lynn for a report of an MBTA bus operator who was assaulted. Preliminary information suggests a male offender, 53 years of age with a residence in Lynn, MA., while traveling on an MBTA Route 426 bus attacked the bus operator without provocation. The operator, a female, sustained approximately 2 NON life threatening stab wounds to her back. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Passengers on board the bus intervened and prevented further assault and detained the suspect until police arrived. The male was taken into custody for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

Transit Police Superintendent Sullivan stated " we are extremely grateful to the passengers who interjected themselves to stop the assailant and prevent further harm to our fellow employee. We are equally grateful to the our partners at the Lynn Police Department who responded expeditiously to take control from the passengers detaining the suspect. Attacks such as this on MBTA employees are unconscionable and will be steadfastly pursued by Transit Police at every phase".

Transit Police detectives are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.


GUSTAVO MERIDA, 53, of Lynn will be arraigned this Moring in Lynn District Court.

Hadley man arrested for Indecent Assault & Battery.

On May 11, 2017 at approximately 1:40PM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District were on patrol at the MBTA's South Station CR. While there they heard a disturbance near the Tavitas Restaurant. Officers immediately made their way in that direction and were met by a female victim who relayed the following: as the victim was seated at a table near Dunkin Donuts she was approached by a male, later identified as Reginald Madison, 27, of Hadley. Madison began to indecently assault the victim. When the victim drew attention to what was happening Madison walked away in the direction of the fare gates where he proceeded to fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer.

The victim pointed out Madison to the officers.

Officers caught up to Madison and placed him into custody for Indecent Assault & Battery and transported him to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

East Boston man arrested for being a Fugitive from Justice.

Investigation
On May 10, 2017 at approximately 7:55AM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's South Station Bus Terminal for a report of a male who may have unlawfully transported his two minor children into Massachusetts from New Jersey. Upon arrival officers located the two, aforementioned, minor children, ages 5 and 6, along with other family members. The father was not present at this time. Officers determined there was an active warrant for the father, a 30 year old male from East Boston, for Parental Kidnapping 2 counts issued from the state of New Jersey. Shortly thereafter the father returned to the Bus Terminal and was placed into custody for being a Fugitive from Justice and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

  The children did not show any signs of distress but were transported to a local area hospital for evaluation.

TPD confirms fatality North Andover; trespasser struck


Death Investigation
On May 9, 2017 at approximately 11:18PM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to North Andover for a report of a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple TPD units along with North Andover Fire and EMS responded. TPD personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: a male trespassing on the Right of Way was struck by an Haverhill Line MBTA Commuter Rail train in the vicinity of Sutton Street Crossing, North Andover. The male, age unknown, has been pronounced deceased as result of injuries sustained.


Transit Police detectives along with representatives from the Essex County DA's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Missing Person Alert

 The Boston Police Department is seeking the public’s help in efforts to locate 15-year-old Amaya Carter-Tawa. Ms. Carter-Tawa was last seen at about 4:00 PM on Friday, May 5, 2017 at her home in Roslindale. Ms. Carter-Tawa is described as a black female, about 6’0” tall and approximately 125-130 lbs, thin build, light brown complexion, and long black braided hair. Ms. Carter-Tawa has a nose ring and earrings and was last seen wearing black jeans.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Amaya Carter-Tawa is asked to contact District E-5 detectives at (617) 343-4595.

Boston man arrested for Open & Gross Lewdness.

On May 3, 2017 at approximately 8:30am Transit Police assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to MBTA Forest Hills station for a report of male exposing himself. Upon arrival officers were met by a reporting party/victim who informed them of the following: while travelling on an southbound Orange Line train a male, later identified as  Saddan Andujar, 26, of Boston sat down next to the victim. Shortly thereafter Andujar exposed his genitals and committed a Lewd act. The victim got up and walked away however Andujar followed her. When the train stopped at Forest Hills the victim and Andujar exited.


Officers placed Andujar, who was still on scene, into custody for Open & Gross Lewdness and transported him to Transit Police for the arrest booking process.
