Trespasser struck Lawrence.
On June 29, 2018 at approximately 11AM Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to Lawrence for a report of a person possibly struck by a MBTA Commuter Rail train. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Lawrence Fire and EMS. TPD personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: a male, approximate age of 49, while trespassing on the right of way in the vicinity of Merrimack Street was struck by a inbound train on Track 2 on the Haverhill Line. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.
TPD Detectives are on scene and investigating along with the Essex County DA's Office. Foul play is NOT suspected.

Update warrant obtained in Elderly Assault incident.

On June 11, 2018 at approximately 1PM Transit Police officers responded to South Station for a report of a man being assaulted. On June 15, 2018 we posted an update regarding the incident. Please see previous posting here ( http://www.tpdnews411.com/2018/06/boston-man-arrested-for-assault-on.html ) As we indicated then the investigation was on going, subsequently Transit Police detectives have obtained a felony arrest warrant for Nicholas Dercolo, 18, of Brockton for Assault & Battery on an Elderly Person resulting in Serious Injury.

Boston man caught in the act of stealing bicycle.

On June 20, 2018 at approximately 4:40pm a seasoned Transit Police detective had occasion to be inside the North Quincy MBTA parking lot when his attention was drawn to a male, later identified as Agustin Jaramillo, 22, of Boston. Jaramillo, armed with a set of bolt cutters, was attempting to cut the cable and lock off of a bicycle that was secured to the bike rack. The detective approached Jaramillo and based on his responses it was obvious to the detective Jaramillo was attempting to steal the bicycle.
Jaramillo was placed into custody for Attempted Larceny of a Bicycle and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.

BOSTON – An employee of the Massachusetts
Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has been arrested and arraigned in
connection with stealing more than $80,000 from the agency’s fare collection
boxes that he was responsible for repairing, Attorney General Maura Healey
announced today.
Stephen P. Fagerberg, age 55, of Dedham,
was arrested Tuesday night as a result of a joint operation by Massachusetts
State Police assigned to the AG’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police, and
the MBTA Police. As an Automated Fare Technician at the MBTA, Fagerberg is
responsible for fixing and repairing fare collection boxes on MBTA buses in
South Boston.
Fagerberg was arraigned this morning in
Roxbury District Court on one count of the charge of Larceny over $1,200 in a
Continuous Scheme. Fagerberg pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released
on his own personal recognizance with the conditions that he surrender his
passport and stay away from MBTA property. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled
for August 14 in Roxbury District Court.
The AG’s Office began investigating
Fagerberg in April 2018.
Authorities
conducted an undercover operation that included planting marked bills in fare
collection boxes that Fagerberg serviced. Authorities allege that the defendant
deposited the marked bills into his personal bank account via a drive-up ATM.
Fagerberg allegedly stole $80,000 from the
MBTA over several months.
This is an ongoing investigation and the
defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
This matter is being prosecuted by
Assistant Attorney General David Andrews, Chief of AG Healey’s White Collar and
Public Integrity Division. The case is being investigated by Massachusetts
State Police assigned to the AG’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police and
the MBTA Police with assistance from Sallyann Nelligan, Director of AG Healey’s
Financial Investigations Division.

Wanted Fugitive captured by TPD after fare evading.

On Friday June 15, 2018 at approximately 5:50PM member's of the Transit Police Crime Suppression Team were at Revere Beach MBTA station conducting Point of Entry Policing. While there they observed a male, later identified as Jonathan Walsh,36, of South Boston fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer. Officers approached Walsh for the purpose of issuing a citation. Subsequent to that encounter officers discovered Walsh was wanted by the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office via a fully extraditable warrant for Larceny Over 1,500.00. Walsh was placed into custody and shortly thereafter officers discovered Walsh was in possession of various kinds of controlled narcotics of which he did not possess a valid prescription.
Walsh was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

Boston man Arrested for Assault on Elderly person.

On June 11, 2018 at approximately 1PM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's South Station Red Line north for a report of a man being assaulted. Upon arrival officers were directed to a male slouched over on the bench who appeared to be in pain. Officers noted the victim, a 66 year old male, had a swollen right eye and cuts about his face and was wincing in pain. The victim reported to the officers while riding on an inbound Red Line train an unknown female accused him of taking her picture. The victim attempted to explain he did not take any inappropriate pictures. At this time an unknown male forcefully grabbed the victim's phone and began walking away. The victim followed the male and demanded his phone back. The male began to physically beat, choke and kick the victim. The victim also stated he believed others may have assaulted him during this time as well.
Boston EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local area hospital for treatment. A witness to the incident approached an officer and turned over the victim's phone stating she retrieved the phone from the floor during the assault.
Subsequent to an investigation by TPD Detectives Tukan Manley, 31, of Boston was placed into custody on June 14, 2018 for Assault & Battery on an Elderly Person, Strangulation and Malicious Destruction of Property.
The investigation is ongoing relative to others who may have participated in the assault on the victim.

(Please see posting here) As a direct result of numerous tips from members of our MBTA community on Friday June 8, 2018 Kerrick Pierce, 23, of Pembroke was placed into custody by Transit Police detectives for Assault & Battery resulting in serious bodily injury.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests/charges are expected. We will update as that happens. As always we are extremely grateful for all the tips that came in. They were invaluable !!

Somerville man violently attacks MBTA employee

On June 4, 2018 at approximately 5:20AM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Alewife station for a report of an MBTA employee being assaulted. Upon arrival officers observed several people attempting to restrain a male on the platform, later identified as Charles Mills, 29, of Somerville. Officers intervened and after a brief struggle with Mills were able to place him in restraints. Witnesses on scene informed the officers of the following: Mills, while seated on a bench, was screaming profanities regarding holding the train. Suddenly and without provocation Mills got up from the bench and violently attacked a female MBTA employee, who was walking past Mills, throwing her to the platform. Mills then proceeded to assault the victim/employee while straddling her. The victim was able to break free and get up from the platform, Mills then began to throw punches at the victim. At this time several employees came to her aid.
Mills was placed into custody and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation.

Trespasser Struck Fitchburg. Non life threatening injuries.
On June 2, 2018 at approximately 10:15PM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District responded to Fitchburg CR station for a person struck by a Commuter Rail Train just west of the station. A preliminary investigation suggests a 34 year old male, trespassing on the inbound track, was struck by a slow moving CR train and sustained non life threatening injuries. The male was Med Flighted to a local area hospital for treatment. TPD Detectives are investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the matter. Foul play is NOT a factor. NO further updates.
