On May 26, 2014 at approximately 4:30PM Transit Police officers working in Area 1 were conducting a check of the men's restroom located inside the MBTA's South Station Commuter Rail lobby. Officers assigned to Area 1 have noticed an uptick of individuals utlizing the men's restroom to use illicit drugs. While passing through officers observed an individual, later identified as Austin Ferriera 24 of Taunton, who was occupying a stall drop several syringes on the floor. Officers knocked on the door and announced their presence and requested Ferriera step out.

Subsequent to an investigation officers discovered Ferriera had a warrant in existence for his arrest issued from Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for Possession of Buglarious Tools and Receiving Stolen Property. Ferriera was not in possession of narcotics at the time of his arrest but admitted to officers the syringes were for the consumption/ingestion of illicit narcotics.
