On May 2, 2014 at approximately 11:35 pm Transit Police officers working in Area 1 received a radio call to respond to Temple Place (Downtown Crossing) bus stop for an assault in progress on board an MBTA Silver Line bus. Upon arrival officers were met by a male victim who informed them a woman, who appeared to be intoxicated, was attempting to speak with him on the bus. Unable to understand what she was saying the male moved away from her. This apparently offended the woman's sensibilities as she proceeded to "punch" the male in the shoulder. An officer then attempted to interview the woman, later identified as
Carmen Torres, 47 of Dorchester to ascertain her version of events. However Torres was not interested in discussing the matter and pulled her fist back and attempted to strike the officer in the face. The quick thinking officer moved and avoided being struck however her punch found it's way to the male victim's jaw. Officers took control of Torres and placed her into custody. Torres was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. During this time it was discovered there were two warrants in existence for her arrest. The first warrant issued from Boston Municipal Court for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Disorderly Conduct and Assault & Battery on an Ambulance Personnel and the 2nd warrant issued from South Boston District Court was for Disorderly Conduct.
It is expected Torres will be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for assault charges.
