Juveniles arrested at JFK-UMass station for assault.

On June 30, 2022 at approximately 10:45PM Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's JFK-UMass station for a report of train windows that were maliciously damaged. Upon arrival officers were directed to a 53 year old male victim and witness who collectively relayed the following information: A group of juveniles while on the Ashmont platform began kicking and striking Red Line train car windows breaking them in the process. The group then proceeded to the Station's pick up drop off area and approached an off duty cab driver/victim. The juveniles told the victim they wanted a ride, the victim explained to the group he was not working and was there to pick up a family member. The group responded by spitting on him, attacking him with a hammer and a glass bottle.  A witness then pointed out the offending juveniles to responding officers.

Officers approached the group who immediately fled. Based on the quick decisive actions and teamwork of TPD officers the juveniles were apprehended. Officers placed a male juvenile 14, of Boston into custody for Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon-Glass Bottle, a female Juvenile 16, of Boston for Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon-Hammer and will summons a male juvenile 13, of Boston for Spitting on the victim. Officers will determine further charges for the malicious destruction of the train windows upon video review.
