On May 30, 2013 at approximately 7:40pm Transit Police officers from Area 1 received a radio call to respond to MBTA Tufts Medical Center station for a report of a robbery in progress. Upon arrival officers located a female victim who furnished the following information: while inside the station she was set upon from behind by a male who had grabbed her by the shoulders and demanded she turn over her cellular telephone. The victim refused, the male then forcefully attempted to rip the victim's cell phone from her hands. A struggle ensued which caused the victim to fall down a set of stairs resulting in minor abrasions to her facial area. The victim was able to maintain possession of her phone. The male attacker fled the station running out onto Washington Street.
Multiple Transit Police units conducted an area search and located a male subject, fitting the clothing and physical characteristics provided by the victim, near the corner of Tremont and Boylston Street. The victim positively identified the male,
Joaquin Armaiz, 43 of Boston as her attacker. Armaiz was placed under arrest and transported to Transit Police HQ for the booking process. Armaiz is expected to be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court for Assault to Rob-Unarmed.
