TPD officer attacked at South Station.

On October 22, 2018 at 7:30PM a Transit Police officer assigned to the Central District was on patrol at the MBTA's South Station Commuter Rail. While there he was approached by a concerned citizen who informed him a man appeared to be threatening a female just outside the commuter rail doors. The officer immediately proceeded in that direction and came upon a male, later identified as Othman Yakuba, age 33, and a female engaged in a verbal altercation. As the officer approached he was immediately attacked by Yakuba and causing the officer to fall backwards striking his head on the pavement. As the officer wrestled with Yakuba he was able to press his Officer in Trouble button on his radio and multiple TPD Units responded. Prior to additional TPD officers arrival two good Samaritans intervened long enough for responding officers to assist.

Yakuba was placed into custody for Assault & Battery on a Police Officer and Assault & Battery for the initial assault on the female victim. Yakuba was transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.
