On July 12, 2015 at approximately 3:15pm Transit Police officers on patrol at the MBTA's Ruggles station observed a female, later identified as
Jacqueline Abate, 32, of Roxbury. Abate was located in the lower busway smoking a cigarette in close proximity to conspicuously posted "NO SMOKING" signs. Officers approached Abate to educate her relative to the no smoking laws on MBTA property. Subsequently officers discovered Abate had several warrants in existence for her arrest issued from Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for Shoplifting and Quincy District Court for; Check Forgery 4 counts, Attempt to Commit a Crime 3 counts, Uttering a False Check 4 counts and Larceny by Check 3 counts. (15
total charges). Abate was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.
