Anwar Jaffar |
On July 10, 2014 at approximately 9:12AM a Transit Police officer was approached at the MBTA's Downtown Crossing station by a concerned citizen wishing to report an incident. The reporting party informed the officer of the following; she exited a Red Line train and was proceeding to the Orange Line via the escalator. While on the escalator her attention was drawn to a male party directly in front of her. This male, later identified as
Anwar Jaffar, 33, of Dorchester, was holding his cellular telephone under the skirt of the woman in front of him and video taping. The witness noticed a distinct light of the cell phone was illuminated and she could clearly see the victim's image displayed on Jaffar's screen. Upon disembarking the escalator Jaffar put his phone away and continued to follow closely behind the victim. As the victim began walking up the stairs to exit the station Jaffar again took his phone out and began to video tape the victim as she proceeded up the stairs.
The officer, with assistance from the witness, was able to locate Jaffar and place him into custody. Jaffar was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Jaffar will be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for "Upskirting".
The victim was also located and informed of what had transpired.
The Transit Police heaped praise upon the witness for getting involved and following our See Something Say Something campaign.
