On February 20, 2022 at approximately 8AM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Back Bay station for a report of an assault. Upon arrival officers were met by the victim, a 33 year old male from Boston, suffering from an apparent stab wound to the hand. The victim informed the officers of the following: while inside the stall in the men's room located in the lobby another male, later identified as Hector Avededo, 42, of Malden, entered the bathroom. Shortly thereafter Avededo informed the victim while still seated in the stall he (the victim) needed to flush the toilet. The victim responded by telling Avededo he should mind his business when it comes to his personal bathroom habits. The two further exchanged contentious words.
When the victim exited the bathroom he encountered Avededo. Avededo who did not see whom he was demanding flush the toilet was inquiring to random folks "Who was talking s*** in the bathroom". The victim came forward and the dispute turned physical. Avededo ultimately stabbed the victim and fled the station. Determined and dedicated TPD officers conducted an area search and located Avededo on Huntington Ave and engaged him in a foot pursuit. Officers apprehended Avededo, he was positively identified and placed into custody. Avededo was transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process. A knife was recovered from his person.
Boston EMS transported the victim to a local area hospital for treatment.
