MBTA Bus vs. MV Saugus

Update** The operator of the Ford SUV, Kathleen Callahan, 47, of Saugus has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in yesterday's accident. Please be respectful of the family and friends privacy during this most difficult time.


On May 13, 2018 at approximately 3:50PM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District responded to the area of Essex and Felton Street's in Saugus for an accident involving an MBTA bus and a motor vehicle. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: in the vicinity of 190 Essex Street, Saugus a Route 429 MBTA bus traveling towards Lynn and was struck head on by a Ford SUV being operated by 47 year old female. The Ford, originally traveling in the opposite lane, possibly struck a 3rd parked vehicle causing the Ford to veer into the MBTA's bus lane of travel striking it head on. There were 4 passengers on board the bus. All 4 passengers and the bus operator were transported to local area hospitals for minor injuries. The operator of the Ford was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

The cause and circumstances of the accident is actively under investigation by TPD Detectives.
