On August 30, 2013 at approximately 6:03pm Transit Police were contacted by the Fitchburg Police Department regarding a person possibly struck by a train in Fitchburg. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Fitchburg Police, Fire and EMS. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information; within the vicinity of the Fitchburg MBTA Commuter Rail station an approximately 10 year old male trespassing on track 2 (Freight track of the Fitchburg Route) was struck by a Pan AM Railways train. The Pan AM train traveling west on MBTA owned tracks consisted of 3 locomotives and several cargo cars. As a result of the strike the male suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for emergency care.Transit Police detectives are currently investigating the facts and circumstances leading to the incident.
