On April 18, 2019 at approximately 5:35AM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to Everett Avenue near the on ramp to the Tobin Bridge in Chelsea for a pedestrian possibly struck by an MBTA bus. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Chelsea Police and EMS. Preliminary investigation reveals an MBTA bus route 111 struck 60 year old Mary Pettiglio of East Boston. Pettiglio has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.
The MBTA is deeply
saddened by this tragic event, and we extend our condolences to Ms. Pettiglio's
family and loved ones. The bus operator
has been suspended and the MBTA Transit Police, State Police and the Suffolk
District Attorney's office will continue their joint investigation.
