On April 14, 2014 at approximately 9:55 pm detectives assigned to the Special Crimes Unit were at the MBTA's South Station Bus Terminal on an investigation. While there a detective was carrying a department owned backpack which contained various items/accessories to facilitate the detective's assignment. As the detective placed the backpack onto a bus parking space platform he was approached by a male, later identified as
Cory Deboer 25 of Whitman. Deboer engaged the detective into conversation. (unaware of the detective's law enforcement status) During the conversation Doboer pointed to the detective's backpack and asked if it was his. The detective confirmed his ownership of the back pack.
As soon as the detective's back was turned Doboer grabbed the back pack and retreated into the Bus Terminal concourse area and began to rummage through the bag. Unfortunately for Deboer other detectives were observing him. Deboer was placed into custody for Larceny and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Deboer will be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division.
