Group of juveniles assault and beat a 66 year old male at MBTA Downtown Crossing.

 On December 27, 2021 at approximately 7PM a group of 6 to 7 juveniles ranging in age from 14 to 16 were at the MBTA's Downtown Crossing station pointing Nerf toy guns at several passengers and engaging in other harassing and intimidating behavior. At this time a 66 year old male victim was entering the fare gates on the Orange Line side when the group of juveniles began shooting projectiles at the victim striking him in his head. The victim exchanged words with the group. The group of juveniles then physically attacked the 66 year old punching him and throwing him against the wall while they continued their vicious assault. After the cowardly assault the group fled and entered into a southbound Red Line train. The victim sustained injuries about his head requiring EMS to transport him to a local area hospital for emergency treatment. 

Dedicated Transit Police officers pursued the group ultimately apprehending them outside of the MBTA's JFK-UMass station (where they were causing a ruckus there as well). Based on witness statements/descriptions as well as video surveillance review officers placed 3 male juveniles into custody for Assault & Battery w/a Dangerous Weapon on a Victim Over 60 years of age. The juveniles were then transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process. 

(Note: TPD believes this group may have been involved in other unprovoked assaults on the MBTA system earlier. Those matters are still being investigated.)

Weymouth man identified as subject who assaulted elder person.

 On October 30, 2021 we posted photographs of an individual wanted for identification relative to an Assault & Battery on a person Over 60 and Robbery (same victim) Investigation. (see posting here) On December 17, 2021 a Transit Police officer assigned to the Central District observed an individual later identified as  Wigberto Burgos, 35, of Weymouth in the vicinity of Park Street station who closely resembled the subject in the above referenced photographs. Burgos who was in possession of his pitbull "Taz" was approached and positively identified as the male in the photographs. Burgos was placed into custody for Robbery and Assault & Battery on a Person Over 60 and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process. "Taz" was turned over to the custody of Animal Control.

Mattapan man arrested for stabbing at South Station.

 On December 14, 2021 at approximately 12AM Transit Police officers on patrol at the MBTA's South Station heard screams coming from the Red Line outbound platform. Officers immediately proceeded in that direction and located two victims, a male and a female both 38 of Boston, bleeding profusely and suffering from an apparent stab wounds. Officers also observed a male, later identified as Conroy Byfield, 45, of Mattapan standing in a fighting stance holding a knife facing the victims. Officers issued verbal commands for Byfield to drop the knife and move away from the victims. Byfield was compliant. 

Initially it appears there was a verbal confrontation which turned physical at which time Byfield is alleged to have stabbed both the male and the female. Both victims sustained serious but non life threatening injuries and were transported to a local area hospital for emergency treatment. Byfield was placed into custody and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.

92 year old man senselessly attacked. Arrest made.

 On December 10, 2021 at approximately 2:30PM Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Quincy Center Station for a report of an assault. Upon arrival officers located a 92 year old male victim bleeding from his head and a concerned citizen attempting to control the bleeding. Witnesses present pointed out a male, later identified as Armando Hernandez, 49, of Boston as the assailant. Officers immediately sought out Hernandez and made observations of his inebriated state and his uncooperative disposition. The victim relayed he was forcefully shoved from behind which caused him the fall to the ground striking his head on the pavement. The attack was unprovoked and the victim has no familiarity with Hernandez. Hernandez was placed into custody for Assault & Battery on an Elderly Person w/injuries and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.  

Victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

TPD arrest individual with 19 outstanding warrants. Andrew Sq. MBTA station.

On December 6, 2021 at approximately  9:30PM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District were on patrol at the MBTA's Andrew Sq. station. While there they heard screaming coming from the area of the bus way and immediately proceeded in that direction. Upon arrival officers located a 26 year old female victim who had just been assaulted. Officers observed swelling and redness on the victim's facial area. Officers also located the alleged assailant later identified as Erik Conroy, 30, of Boston. Officers received conflicting versions on how/why the assault occurred. During this time it was discovered there were 19 individual warrants in existence for Conroy's arrest issued out of Boston Municipal Court, Roxbury District Court, West Roxbury District Court, South Boston District Court and Dorchester District Court for various offenses to include: Assault & Battery on an Ambulance Personnel, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Assault & Battery, B&E Building Nighttime for Felony, Assault & Battery on a Disabled Person and Assault & Battery on a Correctional Facility Employee. 

Conroy was placed into custody for the warrants and additionally charged with Assault & Battery for the incident which drew the officers attention initially. Conroy was transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.

UPDATE: Boston man arrested for Open and Gross incident at Tufts MBTA station

 On December 6, 2021 we posted images of a person of interest relative to an Open and Gross Investigation (see posting here). Based upon tips from our riding public Transit Police detectives arrested ADONIS VALENZUELA, 27, of Boston at his residence. Valenzuela attempted to flee out the back door however he ran into a waiting TPD officer. Valenzuela was placed into custody and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.
