On September 28, 2015 at approximately 8:52am the male subject depicted within arrived at the MBTA's Stonybrook staton riding a bicycle. The subject proceeded to the bicycle rack and stole a tire from a secured bicycle.

On Monday, September 21, 2015, at 4:20 PM, the subject depicted within threatened to assault an MBTA Bus Operator with a weapon at the intersection of Pasadena Road and Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester.

On Monday, September 21, 2015, at approximately 7:05 PM,  the subject depicted within took a patron’s purse from her handbag at Park Street MBTA Station Green Line. 

The subject is described as follows;

·         White male,  20-25 years of age, 5'8” in height, 150-160 lbs, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a blue baseball hat

Point of Entry Policing leads to gun arrest.

Transit Police

On September 22, 2015 at approximately 6pm Transit Police officers were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Downtown Crossing station. While there officers observed a male, later identified as Tyrrell Williams, 19, of Winthrop fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer. Officers approached Williams for the purpose of issuing a citation. Almost immediately upon approach of the officers Williams fled back through the fare gates and proceeded to run up the exit stairs towards Summer Street. Officers pursued Williams and were able to stop him half way up the stairs.

 Recovered from Williams' person was a fully loaded Smith & Wesson .32 caliber handgun. Officers subsequently discovered Williams was not duly licensed to carry a handgun in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Williams was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Williams will be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for various firearm violations.

Fatality-JFK UMass station.

On September 21, 2015 at approximately 2:30pm Transit Police officers working in Area 3 received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's JFK station for a report of a person possibly struck by a red line train. Several TPD units responded along with Boston Fire and EMS. Transit Police on scene report the following preliminary information; at approximately 2:30pm a male, approx age of 50 to 60, was struck by a red line train on the Braintree line (Braintree platform side). The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained. Transit Police detectives along with representatives of the Suffolk County DA's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances leading to the incident. Foul play is NOT suspected.

Boston man arrested for bicycle thefts.

On September 15, 2015 we posted images of an individual of interest relative to the theft of bicycles at the MBTA's Alewife station. (see posting here). On September 16, 2015 at approximately 2pm Transit Police officers on patrol at Alewife station observed a male, later identified as Mark Choplin, 35, of Boston acting in a suspicious manner by the bicycle cages. Officers noted Choplin closely resembled the male depicted in the images wanted for bicycle larceny.

Officers approached Choplin and positively identified him as the male depicted. Choplin also identified himself in the photo and subsequently admitted to stealing the bicycles from Alewife station. Choplin was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. Choplin was arraigned in Cambridge District Court.

Boston man arrested for making False Bomb Threat

On September 16, 2015 at approximately 9AM, Transit Police officers assigned to Area 1, received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Back Bay station for a report of a man on an Orange Line train wearing a mask and making threatening statements. Upon arrival the officers were approached by an unidentified witness who provided a description of the male subject and stated he made a reference to "blowing the train up". This allegedly occurred on the train while traveling between Downtown Crossing MBTA and Tufts Medical Center MBTA station.

Officers conducted a search for the subject to no avail. A review of the MBTA's public safety camera system located the offending male as he exited the Orange Line train and confirmed the statement provided by the witness. Transit Police officers continued to actively search the downtown Boston area for the subject when at approximately 11AM TPD officers located the offending male, later identified Joseph Johnson, 30, of Boston on Washington Street just outside Tufts Medical Center MBTA station. Johnson was placed into custody and is expected to be arraigned sometime tomorrow in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for Making a False Bomb Threat.

Lieutenant Richard Sullivan stated, " we take incidents such as these with the utmost urgency and seriousness. Our number one priority is the safety and security of our patrons and employees. We will work with the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office to ensure Johnson is held accountable for his actions. A clear message must be sent; behavior and statements such as exhibited by Johnson will not and cannot be tolerated on the MBTA. We apologize to anyone who may have been inconvenienced by this mornings incident ".   LT.Sullivan further added, " at no time were our patrons and employees in danger from Johnson's alleged threat".
