First Night in Boston is the oldest and largest New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts in North America and it takes place again tonight December 31, 2014. This is the 39th year of the First Night Celebration.

First Night Celebration is also a family oriented atmosphere for all to enjoy. It is anticipated that approximately one million people will attend. I would like to reiterate what Mayor Walsh and other government officials have requested; you utilize the MBTA in traveling to and from Boston's First Night Celebration. As an added incentive the collection of fares will be suspended from 8PM until the end of service. The MBTA will have additional resources on hand and Transit Police Officers (both uniformed and plainclothes) will be on duty throughout the MBTA system to ensure a safe and efficient travel. I ask that you act responsibly and be respectful to one another. Additionally, please be mindful of young children, the elderly and persons with disabilities while riding the MBTA. The consumption and/or transportation of alcohol and unruly behavior will not be tolerated.

There is no known threat credible or otherwise relative to the MBTA. We do not anticipate any issues but we are prepared to respond to any incident that may arise. In regards to any planned or spontaneous demonstrations we are not anticipating any issues. The protesters have been peaceful and our strategy is to continue to exercise restraint and patience and safeguard the first amendment rights of all citizens.

Trespasser struck Roxbury Crossing MBTA

On December 27, 2014 at approximately 6:25 pm Transit Police officers working in Area 4 received a radio call to respond to Roxbury Crossing MBTA station for a report of a person struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Boston Fire and EMS. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information : at approximately 6:25 a white male, approximate age of 30's, while trespassing on the northbound tracks was struck by an Orange Line train. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

Buses have replaced service between Forest Hills and Back Bay. Transit Police detectives and representatives from the Suffolk County DA's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

On Saturday, December 13, 2014, at approximately 1:30am, the subjects depicted within verbally abused the victim while physically assaulting him on the Orange Line northbound platform at MBTA State Street Station. 

The subjects are described as follows;

·         White males, approximately 20- 25 years of age. The first subject was wearing a black and white horizontal sweater, blue jeans and blue sneakers. The second subject was wearing a dark colored jacket with a white hooded sweatshirt underneath, dark jeans and brown boots. The third subject was wearing, dark colored zip-up sweater, dark jeans and dark boots.

Lynn man arrested for Assaulting elderly person.

James Rogers

On December 18, 2014 at approximately 10:55am Transit Police officers working in Area 2 received a radio call to respond to Wonderland MBTA station for a report of an assault. Upon arrival officers were met by the victim, a 70 year old male, who relayed the following; the victim, a taxi driver, was parked in the "Pick up/Drop off' area of the station waiting to catch a fare. A male, later identified James Rogers 52 of Lynn, hopped into the back seat of the victim's taxi and began to mumble incoherently. Rogers, apparently intoxicated, was asked by the victim to repeat the address he would like to be driven to. Rogers responded by verbally berating and insulting the victim. The victim informed Rogers he would have to seek another means of transportation and requested he get out of his taxi. Rogers exited the taxi opened the front passenger door, leaned in and punched the driver/victim in the face. Rogers then fled the area.

Transit Police with assistance from Revere Police located Rogers in the 1300 block of North Shore Road. Rogers was positively identified by the victim as his assailant. Rogers was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Rogers will be arraigned sometime tomorrow in Chelsea District Court for Assault & Battery on an Elderly Person.

The victim sustained a bloody nose.

Trespasser struck in Attleboro.

Death Investigation 

On December 13, 2014 at approximately 9am Transit Police officers working in Area 3 received a radio call to respond to the MBTA Attleboro Commuter Rail station for a report of a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Attleboro Police & Fire. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information : a white female approximate age of 34 while trespassing in the track area was struck by a outbound train on track 3. The female has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

Transit Police detectives and representatives from the Bristol County District  Attorney's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances leading to the incident. Foul play is not suspected.

Trespasser struck: Gloucester

Investigation

On December 10, 2014 at approximately 6:35pm Transit Police officers working in Area 2 received a radio call for a person possibly struck by a commuter rail train in Gloucester. Several Transit Police units along with Gloucester Police & Fire responded. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information ; a white male, believed to have been in his 40"s, while trespassing on track 2 (inbound side) was struck by a Newburyport/Rockport line commuter rail train in the vacinity of West Gloucester station. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

Transit Police detectives along with representatives of the Essex County District Attorney's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
