Somerville Man leaves his dog behind in attempt to flee from police

On May 29, 2014 at approximately 6:15 PM Transit Police officers working in Area 1 were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Park Street Station. While there officers observed a male, later identified as Christopher Cardalino, 30 of Somerville,  enter through the fare gates without paying. Cardalino, who was also in the company of his dog, "piggybacked" in behind a paying customer.  Officers approached Cardalino for the purpose of issuing a citation. Upon approach of the officers Cardalino became nervous and when asked for some form of identification Cardalino dropped the leash for his dog and took off running. The dog, possibly abandoned and appearing confused, also ran in the direction of Cardalino. Officers caught up to Cardalino as he was fleeing through the exit gates on the Winter Street side and wrestled him to the ground. Subsequent to an investigation officers discovered there were several warrants in existence for Cardalino's arrest. The warrants for Cardalino were as follows: Somerville District Court for Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended License, Failure to Stop, Operating a Uninsured and Unregistered MV, Chelsea District Court for Operating a MV on a Suspended License and Failure to Yield, Chelsea District Court for Uttering a False Prescription and Possession of a Controlled Class C & B substance and Quincy District Court for Operating a MV with a Suspended License and Operator Failure to Identify self.

Cardalino was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. The dog was NOT injured during the incident and was turned over to a person the dog is familiar with.

Trespasser struck in Grafton; Confirmed fatality

Death Investigation

On May 29, 2014 at approximately 7:30 PM Transit Police officers working in Area 4 received a radio call to respond to Grafton for a person possibly struck by a MBTA Commuter Rail train. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Grafton Police and Fire, Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information; At approximately 7 PM an 18 year old male, while trespassing on Track 2, was struck by an outbound Worcester Line train in the vicinity of mile post 37.5. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

Transit Police detectives and representatives from the Worcester County District Attorney's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

was observed fraudulently adding value to his MBTA Charlie Card with a stolen credit card at MBTA JFK/UMass Station.
The subject is described as follows:
  Black male, wearing a purple shirt, black faded jeans, black, gray and red sneakers and carrying a black book bag

Taunton man arrested at South Station

On May 26, 2014 at approximately 4:30PM Transit Police officers working in Area 1 were conducting a check of the men's restroom located inside the MBTA's South Station Commuter Rail lobby. Officers assigned to Area 1 have noticed an uptick of individuals utlizing the men's restroom to use illicit drugs. While passing through officers observed an individual, later identified as Austin Ferriera 24 of Taunton, who was occupying a stall drop several syringes on the floor. Officers knocked on the door and announced their presence and requested Ferriera step out.

Subsequent to an investigation officers discovered Ferriera had a warrant in existence for his arrest issued from Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for Possession of Buglarious Tools and Receiving Stolen Property. Ferriera was not in possession of narcotics at the time of his arrest but admitted to officers the syringes were for the consumption/ingestion of illicit narcotics. Ferriera was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

Trespasser struck in Gloucester; Confirmed fatality

On May 26, 2014 at approximately 10:10 PM Transit Police officers working in Area 2 received a radio call to respond to Gloucester Commuter Rail station for a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police units as well as Gloucester Police and Fire responded. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: a female while trespassing on a single track underneath the Gloucester Street overpass in the vicinity of Mile Post 32/250 was struck by a commuter rail train. The individual was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

Transit Police detectives and representatives from the Essex County District Attorney's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. Foul play is NOT suspected.

Marlborough man violently assaults Police Officer in the booking room

On May 23, 2014 at approximately 7:45PM Transit Police officers working in Area 4 received a radio call to respond to Forest Hills MBTA station, particularly the Route 39 bus berth, for a male causing a disturbance. Upon arrival officers observed a male, later identified as John Capehart 50 of Marlborough, holding a hockey stick in a threatening manner and shouting profanities at the MBTA bus operator. Capehart was also preventing others from boarding the bus. Officers attempted to calm Capehart and ascertain what his issue was, however Capehart was not interested in discussing his behavior but rather continued his tumultuous and combative actions. At one point Capehart physically assaulted one of the police officers by striking them in the chest with a closed fist. It took several officers to subdue Capehart and he was placed into custody for various Assault charges and Disorderly Conduct. Capehart was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

At Transit Police HQ Capehart violently attacked the booking officer by punching him the face with a closed fist. Capehart followed the closed fisted strike by spitting in the officer's face. Capehart was subdued by several officers and will face additional assault charges.

It is expected Capehart will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for Assault & Battery on a Police Officer and West Roxbury District Court for various Assault charges and Disorderly Conduct sometime on May 27, 2014.
