Point of Entry Policing -works again

On November 25, 2013 at approximately 2:30pm Transit Police officers assigned to Area 3 were conducting Point of Entry Policing at Quincy Center MBTA station. While there the officers observed a male, later identified as Jack Mansour, 22 of Wrentham fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer. Officers approached Mansour and subsequently discovered there were two outstanding warrants in existence for his arrest issued out of Dorchester District Court for Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle and Entering a Dwelling by False Pretense. Mansour was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

On Saturday, 11/16/13, at approximately 5:00pm, at Ashmont Station, a female passenger left her purse unattended adjacent to a fare machine as she was purchasing an MBTA pass. The subject depicted within video removed $250.00, from the purse.                                                           
The subject is described as follows;

   White male, approximately 5’10’ in height, 22-26 years of age, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue and red leather Red Sox jacket, blue baseball hat with a red “B”, gray jeans and black and white sneakers

Rumpelstiltskin ???????

On November 22, 2013 at approximately 11:40 am Transit Police officers from Area 2 received a radio call to respond to Davis Sq. MBTA station for a disorderly male drinking on the platform. Upon arrival officers observed a male shouting profanities and threats at other patrons. Officers attempted to calm the man but were unsuccessful. The male continued his tumultuous behavior causing other patrons to move away in fear. The male's refusal to leave the station or cease his behavior left the officers with no choice but to place him into custody for Disorderly Conduct. When asked to identify himself the male claimed to be "Rumpelstiltskin". 

Officers not convinced they were dealing with Rumpelstilskin investigated a little further and ascertained the man's true identity; John Kimball, 57 of Boston. Kimball is expected to be arraigned in Somerville District Court sometime on 11/25/2013 for Disorderly Conduct.

Malden man arrested for Indecent Assault- Maverick MBTA

On November 20, 2013 at approximately 5:37 pm Transit Police officers from Area 2 received a radio call to respond to MBTA Maverick station for a report of an assault. Upon arrival officers were met by a female victim who informed the officers as she was boarding an MBTA bus a male came up from behind her and indecently assaulted her.  The victim pointed out the male subject who was now seated on the bus. Officers approached the male, later identified as Jeffrey Phillips, 29 of Malden, and placed him into custody. Phillips was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. Phillips is expected to be arraigned sometime today in East Boston District Court for Indecent Assault and Battery.

On November 19, 2013 subsequent to an investigation Transit Police detectives arrested a male juvenile from Somerville for Assault with Intent to Rob. The juvenile was transported to Transit Police HQ for the booking process and will appear Boston Juvenile Court.

On November 13, 2013 at approximately 9:27 am Transit Police officers from Area 1 received a radio call to respond to MBTA Charles MGH station for a robbery in progress. Upon arrival officers located a 25 year old female victim who furnished the following information; Victim boarded a Red Line train at Alewife station and placed her purse/bag on the floor between her feet. As the train entered Charles/MGH station and the doors opened a male subject grabbed her purse and fled off the train. Several passengers who had witnessed what occurred attempted to prevent the male subject's escape. Although they were unsuccessful they were able to gain control of the victim's purse.

Transit Police conducted an area search for the male subject to no avail. This incident is currently under investigation by TPD Detectives. The victim sustained a minor laceration to her hand that did not require medical attention at that time.

Boston Police Community Alert Dorchester- Electronic Device safety tips

The Boston Police Department is alerting the community following several incidents of Cell Phone Robberies in Dorchester. The incidents are as follows:

#1. At about 1:16am, Saturday, November 2, 2013, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of Sawyer Avenue. On arrival officers spoke with the victim who stated while walking in the area, she was approached by the suspect. The victim reported to officers the suspect brandished a pair of scissors and demanded her property; she complied. The suspect took the victim’s iPhone 5.

#2. At about 4:23pm, on Monday, November 4, 2013, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of 750 Washington Street. On arrival, officers spoke with victim who stated an unknown male brandished a knife and took his Apple iPod Touch.

#3. At about 8:04pm, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in progress in the area Rowena Street and Ashmont Street, Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who stated he was looking at his iPhone as he exited the rear of Ashmont MBTA station. The victim stated he was approached by two males and one brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s money and cell phone. The victim complied and gave the suspects his property.

#4.At about 12:06am, on Sunday, November 17, 2013, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an unarmed robbery in the area of Sudan St, Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that while walking from the JFK MBTA train station on Sydney Street she was approached from behind by two suspects. The victim stated she felt something hard on the back of her head and the males demanded the victims money and cell phone. The victim complied with the suspects demands.

The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding these incidents. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact Detectives at Area C-11 (Dorchester) at 617-343-4335. ********************************************************************************
Unfortunately, thefts of smart phones/electronic devices (most notably Apple products) is a nationwide trend. This trend often referred to as "Apple Picking" is for the most part a crime of opportunity. However there are things you can do to minimize the chances of being victimized while traveling on the T.

• If possible avoid using your phone while on the MBTA except in cases of emergency/reporting via SeeSay or 911
• Conceal expensive electronic equipment
• Change the color of the ear buds, would be thieves look for the distinctive white ear plugs of Apple
• Refrain from listening to music or wearing headphones while riding the system
• Be aware of your surroundings at all times especially if you are using your electronic device
• Be aware that most robberies of electronic devices occur near the train doors
• Be alert for staged distractions

In the unfortunate event you are a victim DO NOT resist, things can be replaced. Try to stay calm, hand over your device and attempt to observe the physical characteristics of the perpetrator so you can describe him/her later. Contact the Transit Police as soon as possible (immediately if practicable) after the event and report the incident. Our detectives will work diligently to get your property back and apprehend the offender. Also, if you have not done so already please passcode protect your iPhone, enable Find My iPhone and lastly download a Remote Data Wipe for iPhone.
