Man arrested for stealing iPhone
On January 14th, 2013 at approximately 12:20 p.m. Transit Police officers from Area 1 received a radio call to respond to Tufts Medical Center MBTA station for a report of a robbery in progress. Upon arrival officers were flagged down by security guards of Tufts Medical Center Hospital located across the street from the station. Officers were also met by a male victim who furnished the following sequence of events: while riding on an inbound Orange Line train the victim was playing a video game on his Apple iPhone 4. As the train came to a stop at Tufts Medical Center station and the doors opened a male, later identified as Isiah Cooper, 25 of Jamaica Plain,MA. forcefully grabbed the phone from the victim's hands and fled out of the open train doors. The victim gave chase, following Cooper out onto Washington Street. The victim was yelling for passersby to stop Cooper. Several security guards from Tufts Medical Center happened to be posted in front of the hospital and were able to stop and detain Cooper til arrival of Transit Police. Transit Police placed Cooper under arrest for Unarmed Robbery and transported him to Transit Police HQ for the booking process. Officers did recover the Victim's iPhone from Cooper. Cooper is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court sometime Tuesday 1/15/2013 for Unarmed Robbery.

Transit Police officer spots Wanted Everett man
On January 13th, 2013 at approximately 10:55 a.m. Transit Police officers from Area 2 were on patrol at Central Sq. MBTA station when their attention was drawn to a male, later identified as Ryan Folan, 24 of Roxbury, MA. Folan entered through the fare gates without paying, yes you guessed it he "piggybacked" in behind a paying customer. Folan's behavior was also described as "loud" and "boisterous" as he entered. Officers approached Folan for the purpose of issuing a citation, subsequently officers discovered there was an outstanding default warrant in existence for Folan's arrest issued by Dorchester District Court for Motor Vehicle violations. Folan was placed into custody for the warrant and transported to Transit Police HQ for the booking process. Folan was also issued a $50.00 fare evasion citation.
Also on January 13th, 2013 at approximately 11 a.m. Transit Police officers from Area 4 were on patrol at Massachusetts Avenue MBTA station platform area. One of the officers, who has proven his identification prowess in the past, spotted an individual who was featured on a Wanted Poster by the Boston Police. Officers approached and confirmed his identity. Indeed the officer was correct, Patrick Maggiano, 51 of Everett, MA. was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant (issued from Boston Municipal Court for Distribution of a Class B drug and Possession with intent to Distribute a Class B drug). Maggiano was transported to Transit Police HQ for the booking process.

One of the officers, who has proven his identification prowess in the past, spotted an individual who was featured on a Wanted Poster by the Boston Police. Man arrested at Ruggles for Robbery.
On January 12th, 2013 at approximately 5:52 p.m. Transit Police officers from Area 4 received a radio call to respond to Ruggles MBTA station for an unknown problem. Upon arrival witnesses immediately began pointing to a male, later identified as Francis Cocuzzo, 40 of Walpole, MA. Officers then located three female victims (all related) and gathered the following set of circumstances; while waiting to board a bus at the 28 berth Cocuzzo assaulted one of the females (unprovoked) by pushing her with his forearm. The 2nd female victim intervened and told Cocuzzo to stop his behavior. Cocuzzo responded by grabbing the 2nd female victim by her jacket, restraining her against the bus and punching her repeatedly about the body. Cocuzzo then ripped a necklace the victim was wearing off her neck and placed it into his pocket. A third female victim attempted to stop Cucuzzo from his violent assault however he kicked her in the thigh area.
As Transit Police officers were placing Cucozzo into custody he attempted to spit at them and resisted being handcuffed. Eventually Cucozzo was brought under control and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. Cucozzo is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court sometime today for Assault & Battery, Assault &Battery w/ a dangerous weapon/Shod Foot and Unarmed Robbery. Boston EMS responded, all victims examined on scene and released.

Marijuana- FAQ
On January 8th, 2013 at approximately 5:20 p.m. Transit Police officers assigned to Area 3 were on patrol at JFK/UMass MBTA station when they detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana. The officers proceeded in the direction of the distinguishable scent (platform-Braintree end) and observed two males who appeared to have just smoked a marijuana cigarette. Officers approached the males to further investigate. Both parties admitted to indulging in a marijuana cigarette and produced a clear baggie containing marijuana. One of the males, later identified as Kenneth Wade, 19, of Dorchester, was discovered to have an active warrant for his arrest issued out of West Roxbury District Court for the charge of Affray. Wade was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Transit Police HQ for the booking process. The marijuana was confiscated and Wade's companion was issued a citation for possession of Marijuana and released.

Q) Is it okay to smoke a "joint" while waiting on the platform for my train ?
No.
Q) Is it okay to smoke a "joint" while riding on the bus with my friends?
No.
Q) I have a warrant for my arrest and just wanted to smoke a "little weed" while riding my train. My warrant had nothing to do with my marijuana, what's the problem? .
If you have a warrant out for your arrest and DO NOT want to go to jail you should (a) not utilize the MBTA, if you ignore this suggestion (b) when entering our stations and buses pay your fare (c) do not roll a joint, pack a bong or any other means of inhaling cannabis while on the T and lastly DO NOT commit crime or disorder within the system which would draw attention to yourself
Q) I met my friend at Downtown Crossing and sold him a "bag of weed" while on the platform. The weight was much less then an ounce. Why did I get arrested ?
Massachusetts voters decided to decriminalize possession of an ounce or less only. Distribution of marijuana in any amount, whether for money or not, is still a criminal offense.
