Confirmed fatality Salem

On June 9, 2017 at approximately 8PM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to Salem, MA. for a person possibly struck by an MBTA Commuter Rail train. Multiple Transit Police units responded along with Salem Fire and EMS. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: in the vicinity of Castle Hill interlocking, Salem a commuter rail train (Rockport/Newburyport Line) struck a male who was trespassing on the inbound track. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

The male is reported to be 11 years of age. There are no adequate words to aptly convey the utter tragic event this is. TPD Detectives along with representatives of the Essex County DA's Office are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. We ask that you respect the victim's family's privacy at this time.
