TPD confirms fatality at Park St. Somerville grade crossing.

UPDATE ************UPDATE 08/29/16

The victim has been identified as Jean Leonard, 31 years of age, with a last known address in Cambridge. NO FURTHER UPDATES.

On August 28, 2016 at approximately 1:30PM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to the vicinity of Park Street in Somerville for a possible person struck by a Commuter Rail train. Multiple TPD units responded along with Somerville Fire and EMS.  Preliminary information from Transit Police personnel on scene suggest the following : Park Street grade crossing in Somerville, a bicyclist went through the fully functioning gates, which were in the down position for an approaching outbound Fitchburg Line train. The bicyclist, a male approximately 25 to 30 years of age, continued onto the right of way and was struck by the aforementioned train. The bicyclist was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

Transit Police detectives along with representatives of the Middlesex DA's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

No further updates will be disseminated today 08/28/2016.

Boston man arrested for Open & Gross

On August 19, 2016 at approximately 10:30am a Transit Police officer assigned to the Central District was on patrol at the MBTA's Back Bay station. While there he was informed a male had just entered into the women's restroom. The officer immediately began to proceed in that direction and was ultimately directed to a male, later identified as Taha Hamid, 28, of Dorchester who was observed exiting the women's bathroom. At this time the officer was approached and informed by a female victim of the following; while inside the women's bathroom Hamid entered and pulled down his pants fully exposing his genitals to the victim. After doing so Hamid then proceeded to urinate into the sink and stated " This is a man's bathroom now !".


The officer placed Hamid into custody for Open & Gross Lewdness and transported him to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. Hamid will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

Sharon woman arrested for attacking train conductor

On August 15, 2016 at approximately 10PM Transit Police officers assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA's Readville Commuter Station for a disorderly person. Upon arrival officers were met by the train's conductor who pointed out a female, later identified as Emma Bloom, 23, of Sharon. The conductor informed the officers as he attempted to collect the fare from Bloom she refused to pay. The conductor informed Bloom she would have to pay her fare or exit the train. Bloom responded by physically attacking the conductor, kicking, punching and biting him. At one point during Bloom's assault it is alleged she produced a folding knife and began to threaten to stab the conductor.



Transit Police officers placed Bloom into custody and transported her to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected she will be arraigned sometime today in West Roxbury District Court for Assault & Battery, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Shod Foot.

On August 10, 2016 at approximately 7:57PM the male subject depicted within entered onto the Right of Way at the MBTA's Aquarium Station and proceeded into the tunnel. This caused a delay and disruption in service. Several Transit Police personnel responded to the scene and conducted an area search to include entering into the tunnel. Officers were unable to locate the individual. A preliminary investigation has suggested the unknown male's purpose was to obtain a "selfie" inside the tunnel.



This type of behavior will not be tolerated. This criminal act could have turned deadly, it placed TPD officers and MBTA employees in harms way and greatly inconvenienced our riding public.

Just having a few drinks

On August 10, 2016 at approximately 12:30PM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District were on patrol at the MBTA's Andrew Sq. station when their attention was drawn to a male, later identified as Paul Provost, 49, of Boston. Provost and another male were seated on the bench in the bus way consuming alcohol from a vodka bottle. Officers approached and Provost stated they were  "just hanging out having a few drinks".  Subsequently officers discovered there was a warrant in existence for Provost's arrest issued from Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for Assault & Battery and Disorderly Conduct. Provost was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. The second male was ejected from the station without further incident.

Everett man arrested for Child Pornography & Upskirting

On August 5, 2016 at approximately 11AM Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to Sullivan Sq. MBTA station for a report of a male who was secretly photographing up a female passenger's skirt while travelling on a Route 109 bus. Upon arrival officers were met by the victim and witnesses. With information gathered Officers were able to ascertain the offending male's name: MARK BARRY, 51, of Everett.


Transit Police detectives were notified and subsequent to investigation and interview with Barry did discover the following: Barry's cellular telephone contained several "Upskirting" photographs of females on trains and buses as well as Child Pornography. On 08/05/2016 TPD detectives did arrest Mark Barry for Possession of Child Pornography and Secretly Video Taping. Barry was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Barry will be arraigned sometime today in Charlestown
District Court.

Malden man arrested for Assault.

On August 4, 2016 at approximately 5:15PM Transit Police officers assigned to the Central District were on patrol at the MBTA's North Station Commuter Rail. While there their attention was drawn to a male, later identified as Stephen Fusco, 48, of Malden. Fusco had blood on his hands and passerby's were indicating to the officers Fusco had just assaulted another male. Officers quickly located a male victim who appeared to be suffering trauma to his head. The victim informed the officers, without provocation, Fusco struck him in the head with a brick. Boston EMS was summoned and transported the victim to a local area hospital for lacerations.



Fusco was placed into custody for Assault & Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.  Fusco admitted to the assault and stated to the officers he did not appreciate the way the victim "looked" at him.


Fusco was arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court.

Boston man violently assault TPD officer.

On August 1, 2016 at approximately 3:30PM a Transit Police officer assigned to the North District was on patrol at the MBTA's Harvard Sq. Station. While there his attention was drawn to a male, later identified as Travis Artist, 36, of Boston. Artist entered through the fare gates without paying. The officer approached Artist and issued him a citation for Fare Evasion. Upon receiving the citation Artist created a disturbance and was subsequently ejected and trespassed from the station.
 


Approximately 10 minutes later Artist, ignoring his trespass notice, again entered  into the station. The officer approached and explained that due to his tumultuous behavior moments earlier he would have exit the station. As the officer was escorting Artist out of the station Artist became verbally aggressive and refused to comply with the officers commands. A struggled ensued Artist violently struck the officer in the face. Due to the officer's determination and assistance from a private security guard he was able to subdue Artist. During the struggle the officer sustained multiple lacerations to the mouth and was stuck by an uncapped needle in his arm.



Artist was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process and will be arraigned sometime today in Cambridge District Court for Assault & Battery on  PO, Resisting Arrest and Trespassing.



The officer was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
