Dorchester man: Wanted Fugitive in New Hampshire

On September 5, 2015 at approximately 8:30am a Transit Police officer on patrol at Andrew Sq., MBTA station observed a male, later identified as Craig Smith, 31, of Dorchester smoking a cigarette directly beneath a "NO SMOKING " sign. The officer approached Smith to educate him relative to the prohibition of smoking on MBTA property. Smith provided a false name to the officer in an attempt to hide his true identity, as the officer interacted with Smith she noticed a large shopping bag filled with numerous make up products with the tags still affixed in close proximity to Smith. Smith denied ownership of the bag. Subsequently the officer discovered Smith's true identity and that he was wanted by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in New Hampshire for Burglary by Forced Entry of a Residence. Smith was placed into custody for being a Fugitive from Justice and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process.

The officer then reviewed public safety cameras from within Andrew Sq. MBTA and Smith was captured entering the station carrying the large shopping bag full of make up products which was determined to be stolen from local area businesses. Smith to be additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over 250.00.
