Point of Entry Policing: Chinatown

Derrick Burrus
On October 15, 2014 at approximately 8:30PM Transit Police officers working in Area 1 were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Chinatown station. While there they observed a male, later identified as Derrick Burrus, 49, of Dorchester fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer. Officers approached Burrus for the purpose of issuing him a citation, as Burrus was retrieving his identification from his wallet officers noticed a glassine baggy containing a white rock like substance consistent with that of crack cocaine. Burrus attempted to quickly stuff the baggy back inside his wallet. Eventually officers did recover the baggy from Burrus containing what they believed to be crack cocaine. Burrus was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. Burrus was also issued a citation for fare evasion. It is expected Burrus will be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for Possession of a Controlled Class B Substance.
