Fugitive nabbed by Transit Officers at Andrew Sq. MBTA

On September 12, 2014 at approximately 1:30pm Transit Police officers working in Area 3 were on patrol at Andrew Sq. MBTA station when their attention was drawn to a male, later identified as Christopher Sweeney, 31 of Boston. Sweeney was smoking a cigarette in close proximity to several "No Smoking" signs. Officers approached Sweeney to educate him relative to the Commonwealth's laws regarding smoking on MBTA property. Subsequent to their encounter officers discovered Sweeney was a wanted man by the Broward County Sheriff's Office of Florida. There were Florida warrants in existence for Sweeney's arrest issued for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Attempted Burglary of a Dwelling and Grand Theft in the 3rd Degree.

After confirming Broward County Sheriffs would extradite Sweeney he was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. Sweeney will be additionally charged with being a Fugitive of Justice.
