Amtrak train derailment-Fatalities confirmed

***update***  11:30AM 2 males and 1 female have been pronounced deceased as a result of the train accident in Mansfield. tpdnews.

On June 23, 2014 at approximately 12:01AM Transit Police officers received a radio call to respond to Mansfield for a report of a vehicle on the right of way that was struck by an Amtrak train. Multiple Transit police units responded along with Mansfield Police and fire. Transit Police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information; an eastbound Amtrak train, which had originated in Washington DC,  struck a vehicle (SUV) that was on the right of way near mile marker 200.44 causing the Amtrak train to derail. It appears the vehicle was occupied twice and both occupants have been pronounced deceased.

The incident is currently being investigated by Transit Police detectives, Mansfield Police and Massachusetts State Police. Significant service delays should be expected.
