Victim chases robber into lower busway at Ruggles MBTA station

On May 6, 2014 at approximately 9:40 pm Transit Police officers working in Area 4 received a radio call to respond to Ruggles MBTA station (Lower Busway) for an unknown disturbance. Upon arrival officers were directed to two males who appeared to be engaged in a verbal conflict. After receiving witness and victim statements officers ascertained the following; a male victim who was seated on a bench in the SouthWest Corridor was counting his money. Suddenly a male, later identified as Michael Vandenbroeke, 29 of Hyde Park came up to the victim forcefully grabbed his money and fled. The victim gave chase and followed Vandenbroeke into the lower busway of Ruggles Station. Officers placed Vanderbroeke into custody for Unarmed Robbery and transported him to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Vanderbroeke will be arriagned sometime today in Roxbury District Court.
