Man caught in the act of stealing bicycle. Ashmont MBTA

Michael Perrotta
On October 21, 2013 at approximately 8 pm Transit Police officers from Area 3 were on patrol at Ashmont MBTA Station when they were approached by a witness who informed them a man with bolt cutters was near the bicycle rack. Officers immediately proceeded to the bicycle rack and observed a male, later identified as Michael Perrotta, 49 of Brockton removing a bicycle from the rack. Officers approached Perrotta and observed he was in possession of bolt cutters and noticed a cut "U" bicycle lock on the ground. At first Perrotta claimed the bike was his and he had lost the key to the lock. Upon further investigation Perrotta ultimately admitted to stealing the bicycle and he was placed into custody for Larceny of Bicycle. Perrotta was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. During this process it was discovered there was a warrant in existence for Perrotta's arrest issued from Newton District Court for Intimidation of a Witness and Threats to Commit a Crime. It is expected Perrotta will be arraigned sometime today in Dorchester District Court.
