Man arrested after he assaults passenger

On July 16, 2013 at approximately 10pm Transit Police officers from Area 4 received a radio call to meet a victim who was assaulted on an Orange Line train as it pulled into Mass Ave MBTA Station. Upon arrival at Mass Ave Station officers located the victim who informed officers of the following: while riding a southbound Orange Line train a male, for no apparent reason, initiated an altercation with the victim. The victim attempted to ignore the hostile overtures but as the train was pulling into Mass Ave Station the male struck him(victim) in the face with a closed fist and exited the train.

Officers conducted an area search and located an individual fitting the description provided on the corner of Camden Street and Columbus Avenue. The victim positively identified the male as his attacker. The male, later identified as Alipio Souza, 28 of Somerville, also had two warrants in existence for arrest issued from Malden District Court and Woburn District Court for motor vehicle violations. Souza was taken into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. During this process Souza was found to be in possession of Marijuana.

Boston EMS treated the victim on scene for trauma to his left eye.
